Dénia- Cap de Sant Antoni - Xàbia – Cala del Moraig.
Transport:
We can drive our private car; take a bus or a regular excursion boat.
Route with a car:
From Dénia, we take the les Rotes road to the crossing with Xàbia where we turn toward that city. We’ll carry on the mountain road known as les Planes Road for approximately 10 minutes until we take a turn on the left to the Cape of Sant Antoni. We have to drive quite carefully since we are on a mountain road.
The Cape of Sant Antoni:
A cliff 160 m. high with magnificent views.
At its feet, you will find the Cape of Sant Antoni Sea Reserve, a protected area of high environmental, scientific and ecological interest.
After enjoying the landscape for a few minutes we carry on towards Xàbia. The old windmills will call our attention since they sprinkle the landscape around Xàbia.
Visits in Xàbia:
A visit of the historical centre is really worthwhile with the market, the old restored convent, the church of SantBartomeu (late gothic style) and Xàbia’s Town Hall. Furthermore, we must visit the “Soler Blasco” Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum (housed in an early 17th c. small palace and the unique church of Our Lady of Loreto (with a roof in the shape of a reversed ship).
Another interesting route includes a visit to Xàbia’s 15 miradors or lookouts.
Towards the Cala or Cove of Moraig and the Cova dels Arcs (Arches Cave):
From Xàbia we’ll follow the signposting towards the villages of Gata and Benitatxell and once we get into “Poble Nou de Benitatxell”, with an outstanding abrupt coastline and craggy cliffs up to 100 metres high, we’ll follow the signposting to the Cumbre del Sol urbanisation and after that urbanisation we’ll reach the well known Cala de Moraig and the Cova dels Arcs.
The cove has a pebble beach and the sea changes colours from green to blue in a setting of great environmental beauty. To the far south we find the Cova dels Arcs, one of the most important sea cavities on the province of Alacant (Alicante) coast. |
